40 Days of Compassion - Day 2 - God Is Deserving of Our Love

Begin your time with God in prayer.
Praise God for who He is.  Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him.  Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.
Re-read Mark 12:30-31.

"In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.  In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins."  1 John 4:9-10

We have been the recipients of the ultimate expression of love – God sent His Son to die on the cross so that we could live through Him.  He paid the penalty for our sins, enabling us to be adopted into God’s family, completely forgiven, and free from guilt.  The One who loved us so sacrificially and continues to pursue us with His unfailing loves deserves our love and devotion.

Apply God’s Word to your life.

·  Take a moment and think about what your life was like before you knew Jesus.

·  Tell God how grateful you are that He sent His Son to rescue you from paying the penalty for your sin.

·  1 John 1:19 says, “We love because he first loved us.”  How will you love God today?  Who will you love today with God’s love?

Father, thank you for loving me so much that You were willing to send Your Son to die for my sin.  Forgive me for falling short in my love for You.  Forgive me for filling my day with what matters to me instead of what matters to You.  Create in me a new heart - one that loves You and others above all else.  Amen.
