Begin your time with God in prayer.
Praise God for who He is. Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him. Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.
Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.
"We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother. " I John 4:19-21
"For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Galatians 5:14
Loving your neighbor includes thinking, saying and doing what benefits whoever is near you. We are to love those near us in the same way we love ourselves. We love ourselves by meeting our needs (food, clothing, shelter). We love ourselves by doing things that make us feel good, or safe, or happy.
We love ourselves by doing what is in our own interest. Let’s seek to love God today by intentionally loving others as we love ourselves.
Apply God’s Word to your life.
· Think of the ways that you love yourself. How can you extend that same love to others?
· Ask God to show you who you might have been overlooking as your neighbor.
· Pray about how you can love them as you love yourself.
Father, thank you that You have given me eyes to see. Help me to see the people in my life as You see them. Remove the blinders that keep me from seeing the real needs of people. Give me the heart and the strength and the will to love my neighbor today, whoever they may be. Amen.
Related verses to meditate on:
"… But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." 1 John 3:15-16
