40 Days of Compassion - Day 1 - The Journey Begins

"And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’  The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’  There is no other commandment greater than these.”  Mark 12:30-31

Begin your time with God in prayer.
Praise God for who He is.  Confess any sin so that nothing blocks your fellowship with Him.  Ask God to use the Spirit and the Word to transform your life.

Let God’s Word penetrate your head and your heart.
Today we begin our journey – 40 Days of Compassion and we want to start with Mark 12:30-31.  It’s our verse of the year and we want to learn it.  Write it out here.

We live in a self-centered world.  Your tendency and mine is to be self-centered – focused on what we need and what we want.  This makes it very difficult to fulfill the two greatest commandments - to love God and to love people.   To do so we must allow God to transform our minds and hearts.  That’s what this journey is about.

Apply God’s Word to your life.

·  Ask God to prepare your heart for the journey.

·  Commit to spend daily time with God so He can transform your life.

·  Join a life group.

·  Re-read Mark 12:30-31.  How can you love God today?

·  Whom does God want you to love today with His love?

Father, I confess that I struggle with my self-centeredness every day.  Give me the discipline to stay committed to this journey.  Show me when I am focused on my wants and my needs.  Help me to learn to offer myself to You every day, to love You with all my heart, soul, mind and strength and to love those who cross my path. Amen.
